ST8 drum kit tested by Mike Dolbear

Excellent Review ST8 from Mike Dolbear

Prodipe is possibly a fairly new name to some, especially in the UK, so a little background might fill out the picture. Prodipe is a French company offering a range of products from microphones, loud speakers, MIDI and digital products, software and even drum kits (which themselves may one day make it to these very pages!). Much seems to be produced in the far East but with concept, design, and advise from top French musicians and engineers such as Sound Engineer Ludovic Lanen and drummer & producer Claude Salmiéri, who’s name is associated with the development of these drum mics.

Prodipe in conclusion
I would happily use these mics both live and for recording – which is exactly what Prodipe have set out to do. They are well made and rugged with some nice touches (dual sized mic thread and posh case) and they sounded pretty good all round without much effort. I am sure drummers and sound engineers would pay more than these are advertised at as they sound better than the price implies. It would be nice to have some rim clamps included but to be honest, rim clamps are either rubbish or good, so I have never yet found a set included with a mic package that are worth having unless at the top end of the market. Hats off to Prodipe and Claude Salmiéri for their collaboration and production of these mics. I expect we will start to see some UK drummers start to use these and no doubt there are more things to come.
