André Ceccarelli, born on 5 January 1946 in Nice, is a French jazz and popular music drummer. Born into a family of musicians, he began his career in the 1960s, playing with rock and variety bands such as Les Chats Sauvages. He soon moved into jazz, becoming a sought-after studio musician. Working with artists such as Jean-Luc Ponty, Michel Legrand and Dee Dee Bridgewater, he established himself on the international scene. In 1970, he joined the group Magma before devoting himself fully to jazz. Renowned for his subtle, precise playing, he formed his own trio and took part in a number of prestigious festivals. A composer and teacher, Ceccarelli is a leading figure in contemporary jazz.
