Bruno Chevillon is a French double bass player with a dual training in the visual arts and music, studying photography at the Beaux-Arts and classical double bass at the Avignon Conservatoire. He started out in jazz with André Jaume and joined the GRIM, then the ARFI collective, where his meeting with Louis Sclavis was decisive. He has collaborated with many avant-garde jazz and improvised music musicians, including Marc Ducret, Claude Barthélemy and Elliott Sharp. Essentially a sideman, he also develops solo projects, notably a show about Pier Paolo Pasolini. He also explores contemporary music, and stands out for his speed and musical intelligence. In 2007, he recorded his only solo album, Hors-Champ, combining double bass and electronics. In 2014, he became artistic adviser to the Orchestre national de jazz alongside Olivier Benoit. His precise, expressive playing has made him a major figure in European jazz.
