David Blumberg

David Blumberg (1942-2010) was a renowned American arranger, composer and producer. Born in California, he began his career with Venture Records before joining Motown, where he arranged for the Jackson 5, Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye. He was notably responsible for the arrangements of "Love Hangover" and "I Will Survive" (Gloria Gaynor). Blumberg has collaborated with major artists such as Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and Herbie Hancock. He has racked up 14 gold discs and taken part in several Grammy Award-winning projects. He has also composed for television, film and commercials. At the end of his career, he worked on American Idol. An active member of music organisations, he helped to professionalise arranging in the United States. He died of lymphoma in Los Angeles in 2010. His musical legacy remains influential in the entertainment industry.
