Biography

Director of L'ATELIER-Ecole des arts in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, saxophonist and co-founder of the Monsieur Charles Productions label.

Fabien Lelarge began his musical training at the Conservatoire de Chalon-sur-Saône. He went on to study musicology at the University of Bourgogne (Dijon), focusing his work on jazz and the analysis of popular music. A saxophone teacher from the age of 16, he pursued his career in music education (University of Bourgogne, CRR Dijon, Éducation Nationale, IUFM, music schools) before becoming programmer and manager of Media Music (jazz club in Dijon). He taught popular music and studio techniques at the University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, then specialised in educational engineering. He has set up educational projects for various music teaching institutions and currently directs L'ATELIER-école des arts in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez.

He has created several musical works, including: musical creation for Tactile Territory by Steven Bernas (Intimacy exhibition, World Expo, Beijing), improv/rework/remix of In C (Terry Riley) for the Why Note's Festival, pyromusical show on 14 July 2010 with Lacroix-Ruggierie for the City of Dijon, etc.

After founding numerous groups combining jazz, funk and hip hop, his main band Monsieur Charles began in 2000. With Didier Lécheneau (aka De Fontaine - Happy Music), they enjoy combining jazz and electro. Since their first album, Mission DeLuxe (UCMG/Naïve), considered by the specialist press to be the best in "Nu-Jazz", the Burgundy duo has received various international awards and appeared on numerous compilations. They have worked with artists such as Mandel Turner (Playin' 4 the City, Cerrone, Martin Solveig), Elektra Weston (Playin' 4 the City, PariSoul), Sébastien Llado (ONJ, Archie Shepp, DeLaSoul), Eric Seva (ONJ, Chris Rea), Big Band Chalon-Bourgogne, etc.

As a saxophonist, he has opened for and shared the stage with Macéo Parker, Transglobal Underground, Bumcello, Steve Coleman, New Conception of Jazz, Julien Lourau Groove Gang, Omar Sosa, The Metrics, Laurent De Wilde, Magic Malik, Erik Truffaz, Arturo Sandoval, Dan Ghenacia, Djulz, and others.
